TEACH WITH NEXUS

Develop a New Program

By establishing Nexus, the College of Engineering is committed to investing in your ideas. Whether you are a faculty member, instructor, or academic unit chair, we encourage you to submit a concept idea for a new course or program. Through a four-step intake process, our team will work with you to turn your new idea into a reality. We evaluate concepts based on a number of criteria, but any proposal must satisfy at least one of the following:

  • Fill an important gap in the overall College of Engineering portfolio
  • Enhance or complement an existing noncredit or academic credit program
  • Increase the impact and visibility of Michigan Engineering on lifelong learners

If you have an idea for a new course or program, get started by emailing your concept idea to Andrea Schuitman at aschuit@umich.edu. After receiving your idea, we will contact you within 48 hours to discuss your concept in more detail.

  • Short courses that build on — or reimagine — existing online courses or content
  • Professional education certificates that meet the evolving needs and expectations of lifelong learners, including new online credentials that are self-paced, modular, and potentially stackable towards a degree
  • Courses and programs that reach a more diverse audience of learners, including CoE alumni and industry professionals seeking to continue their education while working full time
  • Innovative and experimental instructional concepts, strategies, and technologies that enhance the online and hybrid classroom environment
  • Strategic partnerships that enable the College to grow a sustainable, broad, and coherent portfolio with an emphasis on online-enabled offerings
  • Innovative business models that create a value proposition for all stakeholders
